Prior to the release of the Dolby Atmos Production Suite some facilities used a previous application with a more limited feature set called the "Dolby Atmos Local Renderer" which also used specific send and return plug-ins.    The Dolby Atmos Local Renderer and the Dolby Atmos Production Suite are not compatible and the plug-ins cannot be used in the same session.

If you want to use a session originally used with the Local Renderer with the Production Suite follow these steps:

  • Close the Atmos Production Suite Renderer application
  • Open the Pro Tools session with the Local Renderer send and return plug-ins
  • Remove the Local Renderer plug-ins
  • Save or save a copy
  • Add the Dolby Renderer Send and Return plug-ins for use with the Production Suite
  • Save the session
  • Launch the Dolby Atmos Renderer application

If this procedure has not been followed and both sets of send and return plug-ins are present in a session with the Dolby Atmos Renderer application open,  Pro Tools will crash.   The workaround is to:

  • Close the Atmos Production Suite Renderer application
  • Save and quit Pro Tools (note that this will cause the application to crash but data will be saved
  • Open the Pro Tools session with the Renderer application closed
  • Remove the Local Renderer plug-ins
  • Launch the Dolby Atmos Renderer application
